Prime Day is one of the best times to buy electronics — but only certain categories. Some product types consistently get great discounts. Others get fake markdowns that look good but aren't actually deals.

Categories That Get Real Discounts

Fire TVs and Echo Devices (40-55% off) This is Prime Day's bread and butter. Amazon slashes prices on their own hardware more aggressively than any other sale event. Fire TV Sticks regularly drop to $15-20, Echo Dots to $20-25, and Fire tablets to $50-60.

If you want any Amazon device, Prime Day is definitively the best time to buy. No question.

Wireless Earbuds and Headphones (25-40% off) Audio products consistently get strong Prime Day discounts. Sony, JBL, Samsung, Bose, and Soundcore all participate. We've seen Sony WH-1000XM5 headphones drop to $228 (from $400) and AirPods Pro to $169 (from $249) in past Prime Days.
